What to see and do

For Adults

The main part of the museum is set up as a period house with items you may recognise from your grandparents' or great grandparents' homes. There are lots of now-obsolete kitchen gadgets, brands and knick knacks to make you nostalgic.

The technology area has equipment from yesteryear: typewriters, dial phones, weighing scales. You are free to fiddle with them or show your children how they worked.

The separate exhibition area contains maori taonga, photographs, local history books and other displays.

If you are looking for family connections we may be able to help you. Ask the duty volunteer for advice.

For Children

To make the museum fun for the young ones we have a detective game, where they have to find different objects in the collection. Ask for this when you arrive.

Children can also play with the dial phones, typewriters etc.
